Brimming are the reserves where doubt is stored. As one need is supplied another need cries out in discomfort. There’s constant inward, and sometimes outward struggles to regain ground by faith. The issue is that we are trusting God to put out all our fires. God is not in the business of putting out our fires but rather extinguishing the need for fire extinguishers. Numbering all the reasons why a thing will not work out for our favor makes trusting God difficult for certain, but as the Lord reminds, we are to look for reasons to believe not itemize reasons to doubt. Refreshingly, we can face the impossibilities with a list and subsequent bullet points that detail why God is faithful to do what He said. Many times, our mindset is what shifts a productive day, week, month or year to an unproductive one. It wasn’t until recently that the Lord showed me the direct relationship between doubt and procrastination, laziness, bad attitudes, and etcetera. Our lack of action, the absence of enthusiasm, or pessimistic demeanor are telltale signs that somewhere along the line we stopped believing God.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil” Proverbs 3:5-7
It happens. But how do we get back on track? Remember what you originally believed to be true about God, dust off your foundation. Even now, we can focus on the chaos or we can fix our eyes on Jesus Who is our solid rock. Reinforcing our relationship with Jesus is of the utmost importance if we are to overcome doubt. This looks like doing what we used to do when we first came to Christ. Sometimes we get comfortable in our relationship with God and become complacent. Let’s just say doubt and complacency complement each other. Doubt may seem harmless until we consider how the enemy uses it to trick us out of our blessed place. Think about Eve. Doubt cost her everything. We all struggle in the body of Christ from time to time. We cannot fix ourselves; the Lord works on us. Ask Him today to remove that spirit of doubt if this resonates with you. May God do a mighty work in us, through us and to us thus removing all doubt. In Jesus name, God, help us doubt the lie and believe the truth, in You alone do we hope, Amen.
“But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.” Psalm 56:3
